Mealey Electrical Contractors Limited were commissioned by Fusion Lifestyle Limited to design and install an upgraded sports hall lighting system at their Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre in Oxford.
The existing lighting system was considered unsuitable due to the excessive re-strike time of the metal halide fittings. As the hall was used intermittently, the length of time from switch on to full lighting was too long if done at the beginning of a session. This resulted in the lighting being switched on when the sports hall centre opened and left on all day until the leisure center closed at night irrespective of whether the hall was occupied or not.
During the investigation Mealey Electrical Contractors Limited also calculated the carbon foot print of the existing system along with the lux level required and included the projected payback time of the new lighting system and installation cost in the proposal.
The findings were presented to the client along with our proposal for a cost effective solution that allowed the lighting to be automatically switched off when the hall was unoccupied by utilisation of occupancy sensors. The proposal also included the ability to override the sensors if necessary.
Our proposal was accepted and the project was completed on time and to the agreed budget
